How long does it take for a cake to cool?

August 3, 2022 by Megan Leave a Comment

Wondering how long does it take for a cake to cool? While it seems like such a simple question - there are a few factors to consider. Not only does the type of cake matter, but the amount of time also depends on the size of your cake as well.

We'll dive in and talk about all the cake cooling tips below so that you can take the proper steps to plan enough time for the perfect cake.

For the best results, it's always good to understand the cooling process of a cake. The last thing that you want to try and do is rush a hot cake!

It's important to know that the whole cake needs cooling time to come to room temperature, either on a cooling rack or on a flat surface.

How long does it take for cake to cool completely?

It's a good idea to give your cake 2-3 hours to cool down all the way. While this might feel like a long time, I promise you that making a whole new cake because you weren't patient will be even longer!

How do you cool a cake down quickly?

The good news is that you can speed up the cake cooling process, even though it still might take a couple of hours. The best way to cool a cake is to pop it in the freezer or the fridge.

But you still have to be careful doing this! Wrap the cake in plastic wrap before putting the delicious dessert in either cooling method so that it doesn't take on the scents and smells of anything else in the fridge.

Can you put a warm cake in the fridge?

Yes, a warm cake and be placed in the fridge, but it's actually a better idea to let the cake cool down at room temperature if possible.

If you need to cool it quickly though, you can cover it with plastic wrap and then place it in the freezer or the fridge.

It is recommended that you let the cake cool down for 15-20 minutes before putting it into the freezer or fridge.

Should I cover a cake while cooling?

To get the perfect cold cake, you need to make sure that you cover the cake in plastic wrap while it's cooling down. This will help to retain the moisture of the cake, even as it cools.

How long does it take for a cake to cool?

You want to make sure that the entire cake, from the center of the cake to the edges, or all the way cooled. To get a cool cake completely, you need to give it at least 3 hours.

Be sure to take the cake out of the hot pan as well so that the sides of the cake and the bottom of the cake are no longer being heated. Once you let the cake rest after baking it, the cooling process officially starts.

Why should you let a cake cool down?

It's important to let the cake sides and the top of the cake cool all the way, especially when you want to frost the cake.

If you try to add buttercream frosting or cream cheese frosting (or any type of frosting to any cake layer), it's going to melt off the cake and create a big mess.

If you're unsure if the cake is cooled, you can apply a thin layer of frosting to the cake and see how it does. The frosting should stay the same consistency if it's cooled all the way.

Now that you know the importance of cooling a cake, it's time to bake one for yourself!
